President Nicolae Timofti called on the corrupt judges to quit, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The judge has no other mission than to work for the law. You should yourself purify the system. Those who cannot stand firm and are unable to do justice should leave voluntarily. We will find mechanisms that will enable us to get rid of these persons,” the head of state said when delivering a speech at the General Assembly of Judges. Nicolae Timofti also said that he will support the judges who did not become involved in illegalities that discredit the judicial authority. “I can reproach myself for only one thing and most of you should to the same: how did it happen that we lost the battle to the corrupt ones? How did it happen that justice started to be controlled from outside through persons infiltrated into the system and promoted inexplicably faster to important posts so as to protect the dishonest interests of political circles or private individuals?” asked the head of state. In the same event, Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said that the salaries are one of the most serious problems in the legal system. The Ministry of Justice will support the bill to raise judges’ pays put forward by the head of state. The judicial institutions’ budget was increased and this money will be used to build the Palace of Justice that will ensure better conditions for doing justice. Judge Gheorghe Balan, of the Botanica District Court, said the judges are dissatisfied with the work of the Supreme Council of Magistrates that favors some of the judges. He stated he speaks in the name of his colleagues, who delegated him to do this. According to him, the Council promotes its own interests. When he finished his speech, he was applauded by most of those attending. The General Assembly of Judges takes place at the beginning of every year. This year it was held on February 15.
