Nicolae Timofti: Moldova’s prosperity depends on justice sector reform

The justice sector reform is the most important reform that is now done in Moldova. This is followed attentively by the public opinion and the development partners and the country’s administration has the duty to make this process more authentic and more profound, President Nicolae Timofti said in the meeting of the National Council for the Law Enforcement Bodies’ Reform on May 24, IPN reports.

“We all want the commenced reforms to produce sustainable results in time and to have a positive impact both at institutional level and at social level. This means strengthening the rule of law institutions, making them really independent and making justice credible before the people,” the Head of State said in his speech.

Nicolae Timofti stated that the judicial system is the center of order in the state and Moldova’s prosperity depends greatly on the success of the justice sector reform.

Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari, presenting the annual report on the implementation of the justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016, spoke about the main accomplishments achieved in 2015. He assured that both the political class and the judiciary are determined to continue the reformation process.

The official said that of the over 400 reform actions, more than 300 were carried out. Thus, about 100 actions are under implementation. Some of the measures are overdue because of the tight budget.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola noted the opportunity of implementing the justice sector reform whose putting into practice has special importance for Moldova’s future.

The justice sector reform for 2011-2016 was adopted by Parliament on November 25, 2011.
