Nicolae Timofti: Moldova is taking determined steps that bring it closer to desiderata of Declaration of Independence

After 23 years of freedom, we know that the road to Europe is the only one that ensures progress, security and welfare. In the European area, the partner states respect each other, do not impose bans on each other and help each other when necessary. Over the last few years, mainly the past year, we have taken determined steps that brought us closer to the desiderata stipulated in the Declaration of Independence. We must continue the modernization of Moldova, with more devotion and seriousness, President Nicolae Timofti said in the ceremony to hand over National Awards on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the proclamation of independence, IPN reports.

The head of state said he wants to believe that the majority of Moldovans got rid of doubts and the nostalgia for the Soviet past. “The Republic of Moldova has another road, the European one. We associated ourselves with the European Union and got the right to travel freely on the continent and to trade freely in the European area,” stated Nicolae Timofti. He called on the people to take steps that would lead to unity and common good.

In the same event, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said that during the 23 years of independence, Moldova has gone through different good and less good stages. Today, Moldova is a respected country that started to gain its deserved place in Europe and that ultimately shows that it has a clear project for the future. The European road represents a clear development and prosperity model that is covered by other countries as well. Hard work, patience and understanding are needed in this process.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the laureates of the National Awards are real heroes of Moldova who work, resist, create and produce values. “They are the promoters of the European Moldova of tomorrow. I congratulate and thank them cordially for this,” he stated. “I congratulate you all on the occasion of the national holidays and assure you that we are confident that Moldova has a European future, which is free and prosperous. We all deserve this future, especially the talented people of our country.”

This year the National Award was given to eight personalities: Tudor Zbarnea – for considerable contribution to developing plastic arts in Moldova; Dumitru Blajinu – for valuable contribution to collecting, conserving and propagating musical folklore; Galina Buinovschi  –  for exceptional performance in developing the national instrumental music school; actor Vitalie Rusu  –  for entire artistic work; Sergiu Musteata – for the series of scientific works in the area of history and protection of cultural heritage; Petru Stratulat  – for founding and implementing the new scientific-practical direction  “Perinatology”; Stefan Turcanu – for scientific-teaching work in the area of physiology of domestic animals and zoology; Nicolae Oriol – for entire work in the field of sport.
