President Nicolae Timofti said that he obeyed the constitutional norms when he proposed the Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat for the post of Prime Minister. He considers that the interpretation of the Constitutional Court is political. The head of state made the statements when presenting interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to the Cabinet on April 25, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti said that under Articles 101 and 103 of the Constitution, he wasn’t obliged to name an interim Premier. “I have dealt with the laws all my life. I can read, understand and implement them. The Constitutional Court’s interpretation was political. I read the decision, but didn’t see the arguments showing that the head of state broke the law,” stated Nicolae Timofti.
The President said he approved of the work done by the Government led by Vlad Filat. He stressed that he followed the Cabinet’s work as an ordinary citizen too and is satisfied with its accomplishments and the accomplishments of Vlad Filat. Nicolae Timofti said he will show in time that this Government did a lot.
