Nicolae Timofti in favor of amending Constitution
The new President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti said that he will provide assistance in improving the constitutional framework so that there are no blockages in the future, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“As a guarantor of the Constitution, I will supervise how the principle of separation of powers in the state is observed as this is a fundamental, democratic principle without which we cannot speak about veritable rule of law. They now speak a lot about the imperfection of the Constitution and the necessity of amending it,” Nicolae Timofti said in the March 16 sitting of Parliament.
He also said that the constitutional reform initiated in 2000 has not been brought to an end and now Moldova faces serious problems that concern not only the most important state institutions, but also the fundamental human rights.
Nicolae Timofti referred to the procedure for electing the President and the non-clarity as regards the powers of the main state institutions. “As a President, I will provide all the support for improving the constitutional framework so that there are no blockages in the future and the supreme law ensures the efficient and harmonious development of the country,” he stated.
Nicolae Timofti was elected head of state on March 16.
