Nicolae Timofti holds separate consultations with AEI leaders

President Nicolae Timofti is holding separate consultations with the parliamentary parties of the ruling alliance following the intention of the PLDM to renegotiate the agreement on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration. The head of state’s position was made public by his spokesman Vlad Turcanu, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The head of state considers that the Republic of Moldova must have a functional government, with solid parliamentary support, so as to implement the broad structural and political reforms initiated in the country, as agreed with the main foreign partner – the European Union,” said Vlad Turcanu. The President will have separate discussions with the leaders of the AEI and representatives of the opposition in an effort to identify a method by which to overcome the current political crisis as soon as possible. According to the spokesman, the head of state considers that despite the political disputes that must be resolved, the European integration should remain the only development path of the country, in the name of the country’s future and the people’s welfare. Vlad Turcanu also said that a meeting in extended format is not excluded. On February 13, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat announced that the PLDM decided to withdraw from the agreement on the creation of the AEI. Several hours earlier, the chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu said that if the PLDM votes together with the PCRM in Parliament, the alliance will break up.
