Incumbent President Nicolae Timofti voted at the polling place housed by the Theoretical Lyceum “Matei Basarab” situated in Rascani district of Chisinau. He avoided making statements for the press when he went out, IPN reports.
“I came to vote, not to give news conferences. I voted and that’s all. I’m in a hurry as I have some other matters to deal with,” Nicolae Timofti told the journalists.
Nicolae Timofti was voted President of Moldova by Parliament on March 16, 2012, by 62 votes of MP in favor.
Today, October 30, the people of Moldova are electing their next President. It is for the first time since the constitutional reform of 2000 that the Head of State is elected by direct vote, not in Parliament.
The person who will be elected to the office today will be Moldova’s fifth President.
