President Nicolae Timofti has summoned a meeting of the Supreme Security Council for July 16. The Council will examine the cases of violation of the military discipline in the National Army that resulted in death. Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta and Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin are expected to render reports, IPN reports.
Two National Army soldiers died while doing their military service so far this year. On June 25, a soldier was found strangled near the military training ground “Bulboaca”. The Chisinau Military Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case over this incident. On July 12, a soldier of the Balti motorized infantry brigade No. 1 “Moldova” was shot accidentally by a mate. According to the preliminary investigation, the incident happened because the security norms while on guard were violated.
