President Nicolae Timofti said the presence of the U.S. soldiers in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on May 9 is a symbolic confirmation of the joint victory won by the allies against Nazism, while the United States contributed to this victory of the states of the anti-Hitler coalition. The Head of State made such a comment following “the launch of a misinformation campaign” about the participation of 200 U.S. soldiers in the events dedicated to the Victory Day in central Chisinau for the first time in Moldova’s history. Nicolae Timofti considers the anti-American rhetoric is a reminiscence of the cold war, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the presence of the U.S. soldiers in Chisinau is a continuity of the traditions respected by the allies that formed part of the bloc of the Alliance, which commemorate together the victims of World War II.
In this connection, Nicolae Timofti said the anti-American, anti-NATO hysteria is absolutely irrelevant in the landscape of modern democracies, being a reminiscence of the cold war. It would be understandable if the so-called Socialist patriots manifested the same patriotic feelings in the case of the illegal presence of the Russian army on Moldova’s territory, which protects separatism on the left side of the Nistru.
The Socialists oppose the presence of the NATO and U.S. soldiers and military vehicles at an exhibition in the central square of Chisinau on May 9. These announced that they will do everything possible to prevent these soldiers and vehicles from coming to Chisinau.
