President Nicolae Timofti called upon all the Moldovans to honor and respect Moldova’s flag. The head of state took part in the festivities staged on the occasion of the National Flag Day in Balanesti, Nisporeni on April 28, IPN has learned from the presidential press service.
“In a period difficult from political and economic viewpoints, we are obliged to take into account the values that can keep us together and can determine us to go on. The tricolor was instituted as state flag on April 27, 1990 as a sign of restoring the historical memory. Then, thousands of people took to the streets of Chisinau, carrying the blue-yellow-red tricolor with pride,” said the head of state.
Nicolae Timofti underlined that as the Supreme Commander of the Army, he was impressed by servicemen’s respect and honor every time he visited the military units. He said that the political struggle now achieved limits that dissatisfy the people, stressing that the legal and political framework should raise no questions and cause no doubts as to the rule of law in Moldova.
The same day, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici took part in the events dedicated to the National Flag Day in Vadeni, Soroca, while interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca took part in the flag hoisting ceremony in Larguta, Cantemir, being accompanied by the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat.
April 27 became the National Flag Day in 2010.
