Nicolae Timofti assures Europeans that Moldova will efficiently use funds for justice

President Nicolae Timofti assured the European officials that the Moldovan authorities will transparently and efficiently use the funds provided by the EU for reforming the justice sector of Moldova. He made related statements in a meeting with Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle in Strasbourg, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service.

The two officials welcomed the completion of the talks on the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU. The European commissioner underlined the importance of making further effort to strengthen the rule of law and the democratic institutions and to separate the powers in the state. “The European Union is decided to assist Moldova in achieving these objectives,” stated Štefan Füle.

Nicolae Timofti and Štefan Füle agreed a number of joint measures of the EU and Moldova with a view to initialing the Association Agreement, possibly at the Eastern Partnership Summit of Vilnius.

In Strasbourg, the head of state also met with the President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy and the Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert.
