Scientist, teacher and ex-minister of health Nicolae Testemitanu would have turned 90 on August 1. The academic community and students rendered homage to him, laying flowers at his bust on the Alley of Illustrious Scientists and Doctors. Ion Ababii, rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” said that Nicolae Testemitanu was a national reformist of the health system, while the university that he heads carries proudly his name, IPN reports.
“He was a person who knew to cement a medical community around him and initiated those reforms in healthcare that continued in time. The young generation has what to learn from him, including from his decency and very friendly attitude to students,” stated Ion Ababii.
Attending the ceremony, head of the Parliament’s commission on social protection, health and family Valentina Buliga called on the medical community to keep and pass on those nice things, the pieces of advice, love for the people and for the profession of doctor of Nicolae Testemitanu.
Academician Gheorghe Ghidirim, university lecturer, said Testemitanu is a legend and the demiurge of the Romanian people in Bessarabia. He launched the reforms in medicine, starting with the diversification of specialties and ending with the introduction of the ambulatory health system that later led to the institution of the profession of family doctor.
Moldova’s Parliament last September declared 2017 the Year of Nicolae Testemitanu. In appreciation of his remarkable contribution to developing the health system, scientific, cultural and sports activities are carried out in the course of this year in connection with the 90th anniversary of the scientist.
Among the most important events are the holding of the fourth Congress of Specialists in Social Medicine and Sanitary Management, organization of scientific conferences and public lessons, printing of anniversary articles and mounting of photo and book exhibitions dedicated to Nicolae Testemitanu.
Nicolae Testemitanu was a doctor, scientist, teacher and academician. In 1963-1968, he held the post of minister of health. He distinguished himself by the modernization of the health system and training of highly qualified specialists.
