Nicolae Panfil: Politicians make shows, ignoring importance of messages

The Moldovan voters are entertained by shows in the current electoral campaign as the politicians do not think much about the profundity of their electoral messages, Nicolae Panfil, the secretary of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, said in a roundtable meeting themed “Why do we need debates in the election campaign?”, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Panfil said that the Coalition is implementing a voter education project within which debates and meetings with election runners have been organized in 25 Moldovan settlements. “During the campaign, the election contenders go to meet with the voters at their won expense. Under such conditions, the debates must be extended so that they involve more election runners and more people,” said Nicolae Panfil. He stressed that the public in the settlements were debates took place expressed special interest in sensational and critical statements rather than in through analyses of the election programs presented by the contenders. At the same time, it was seen that the people do not tolerate the viewpoints that they do not share. Some of the voters did not take the opportunity to discuss directly with the election runners. According to Nicolae Panfil, civil society can contribute to the development of civic and political culture by different seminars, but the NGOs need the support of the mass media for making such events more efficient. One of the main objectives is to increase the level of political tolerance in society. The authorities and the political class should intervene and stimulate political culture, said the expert.
