The official Bucharest ascertained particular changes made by the Government of Moldova, but considers that this has yet a lot to do for the external financing to be unlocked, political commentator Nicolae Negru stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe, referring to Speaker Andrian Candu’s visit to Bucharest, IPN reports.
“Romania is waiting for the announced reforms that are awaited by everyone to be done by the end of July, when the current session of Parliament ends. I didn’t hear triumphalist statements or very enthusiastic appraisals on the part of Bucharest concerning the developments in the Republic of Moldova. On the contrary, even if reticence wasn’t seen, the sentences were very well measured and very tempered. There was stated the wish for Chisinau to regain the confidence of the Western partners, even if with the assistance of Romania,” stated the analyst.
According to Nicolae Negru, even if Chisinau made some progress, the government has yet a lot to do to sign an agreement with the IMF. “The representatives of the IMF delegation, when they left, in a press release specified what expectations they have of the Republic of Moldova. They are waiting for reforms in justice and the fight against corruption and want the judiciary not to become involved in bank surveillance and regulation and beneficial ownership in the banking sector to be transparent. This hasn’t happened yet,” he said.
The commentator considers the government of Moldova only pretends to be doing reforms. “Some laws are adopted and some changes take place formally, but in reality these changes are not seen. From my viewpoint, our Western partners have the right to be prudent as particular signals are not encouraging,” stated Nicole Negru.
He also said that the signals in the justice sector are also evident, like those referring to the case of Domnica Manole and the case of the mayor of Taraclia. According to him, it seems that someone simulates these reforms and wants to create the impression that things moved on, but there are actually no concrete results.
