The National Integrity Authority (NIA) said that it completed the procedure for checking the property of MP Alexandru Jizdan. According to the NIA, the MP didn’t indicate earnings and nominal allowances totaling over 53,000 lei, the annex in Molovata village of Dubăsari district, three real estate facilities in a city in southern Netherlands held with the right of use by one of his children, including an apartment. In reaction, the MP said he presented all the necessary details and information that explain any of the questions of the NIA. But, according to him, this information wasn’t taken into account and this is not right, IPN reports.
The NIA said the check was initiated at the end of 2019 based on a notice concerning the late submission of the annual income and personal interests statement. The integrity inspector examined the period between 2016 and 2019, covering also the members of the family.
“There was identified a substantial difference of approximately 770,000 lei that significantly exceeds the ceiling allowed by law. This substantial difference was generated by the supplementing of the MP’s family budget with €38,850 in the form of money deposited in cash into the accounts owned by one of his sons at a national bank. In his decision, the inspector noted that the approximately 770,000 lei in cash that was deposited in August 2017 – June 2019 into the bank accounts of his son is unconfirmed. At the start of 2020, another integrity inspector fined the subject for late submission of the income and personal interests statement,” says the NIA’s press release.
According to the institution, the MP benefited from the right to state his opinion on the findings, but the integrity inspector accepted partially the presented explanations as the other arguments were formulated superficially and without presenting conclusive evidence.
In this case, the integrity inspector ordered to confiscate the unjustified possessions to the value of over 770,000 lei and notified the Prosecutor General’s Office of presentation of false data in statements. If the NIA’s document becomes definitive, the MP can be banned from holding public posts during three years and will be put on the Register of Bans.
In reaction, the MP said that this year he learned officially about the checks performed by the NIA since 2019. According to him, particular confusion was created. “I tell you that I didn’t have and do not have what to hide and during my activity I transparently declared by possessions and incomes,” he said, noting the integrity inspector didn’t take into consideration the information and proofs he provided during the checks. “The court should verify all the details and should pronounce on this case that involves me and that looks rather like “political intentions”.”
