The National Integrity Authority said that it completed the examination of the property of the suspended deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov (who is investigated for unjust enrichment, e.n.) on September 30, 2021. According to the institution, the file contains over 800 pages. On October 9, prosecutors collected the materials gathered in this case from the NIA’s head office, IPN reports.
The NIA said that a press release with details about the conclusions of the integrity inspector in this case and the ascertaining document will be published later today. As regards the house in which Ruslan Popov allegedly lives, this building was made available for occupancy in 2006, when there was no legal framework or an integrity institution. Also, unjust enrichment was included in the Penal Code only in 2014.
The institution said the integrity inspector cannot extend the investigation to cover persons who are not maintained by the subject, in this case Ruslan Popov’s parents. However, based on reasonable suspicions deduced from journalistic reports, the inspector submitted a denouncement to the State Tax Service so that this checks the peasant farmstead managed by Ruslan Popov’s father and also examines both of the parents.
Ruslan Popov was remanded in custody on October 9. Legal action against him was taken following investigative journalism reports and the collection of evidence in this case.
