NGOs support project “Revive Moldova”

Representatives of a number of nongovernmental organizations announced their readiness to support the campaign “Revive Moldova” that is designed to collect funds for the Chisinau Mother and Child Institute, IPN reports. Experts in healthcare and social protection, who came together for public debates, said the method by which the Institute is raising the funds needed for its modernization is original and courageous.

“The fact that the Mother and Child Institute established a local partnership with Edelweiss Foundation is something wonderful. I congratulate Edelweiss Foundation on its involvement. It is very important to improve access to services of a high quality, especially among socially deprived people. UNICEF works in the same direction,” said UNICEF Moldova program coordinator Angela Capcelea.

The campaign “Revive Moldova” will be helped by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova to find donors and sponsors that would assist it in collecting the funds needed to repair the Mother and Child Institute. “The needs are greater than the possibilities, but any contribution is welcome. Doctors need normal working conditions. We are ready to cooperate and to share our knowledge so as to find the necessary donors,” said Valeriu Sava, health program coordinator at the Office.

Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund Boris Galca spoke about the campaign’s effects at national level. He said that if Moldova joins the EU, such projects will become more visible and the country will have access to more external funds.

“Permanent effort on the part of all those who can help will be needed for renovating the Institute,” said Larisa Moraru, executive director of Edelweiss Foundation founded by Vlad Plahotniuc, which helps the Mother and Child Institute to carry out the campaign “Revive Moldova”. “Now that civil society is near us, I’m confident that the project “Revive Moldova” will be implemented successfully and will be an example of social involvement.”

The roundtable meeting was organized by the Mother and Child Institute. The debates were moderated by the Institute’s director general Stefan Gatcan. He said that a significant amount has been collected within the campaign so far and the repair works already started.
