NGOs’ success depends on experience, NGO leader

One of the essential factors contributing to the success of the NGOs in Moldova is the wish, which is the starting point. Separation from the state, autonomy, volunteering, apoliticization and non-distribution of profit are criteria that the NGOs should fulfill on the path to success, Rodica Frecauteanu, head of the Caroma Nord Assocoation, stated for Info-Prim Neo. Rodica Frecauteanu said the success of the NGOs depend on their experience. In Moldova, there are many successful nongovernmental organizations. “The success comes when the organization manages to access projects and to extend its activities without the support of donor organizations,” she stated. The successful NGOs contribute to an improved image of Moldova abroad by their work. The civil society organizations, mainly the rural associations, have a say at local level and one can learn from their experience. “Civil society must be developed in Moldova, while the NGOs should be able to keep pace with the time,” said Rodica Frecauteanu. She also said that the number of active NGOs in Moldova is low. Some of them disappeared owing to the political instability in the country, even if there is a civil society development strategy for 2008-2011.
