“The Moldovans who flee abroad do love their country, but they lack a financial motivation to stay here”, said Wolfgang Lerke, former German Ambassador to Moldova, at a news conference held on Tuesday as part of an information session within the framework of the “Good Neighborhood Bridges” Project. Wolfgang Lerke believes qualified workers from Moldova ought to return home to improve the country's economic situation. Valentina Gak, the director of the organization “Woman - Equal Partner”, partner of the project, said the Moldovans would want to return home if they benefited from a sum of money for adaptation or for investment purposes. “We hope we can help the Moldovan nationals return home and start a small business that would keep them here”, explained Dumitru Maxim, the chairman of the Refugee Association. The Good Neighborhood Bridges Project aims to provide multidimensional assistance to refugees and migrants in the process of voluntary repatriation by identifying individual solutions for every beneficiary. The project is carried out by the Germany-based Foundation for Voluntary Repatriation and Humanitarian Reintegration of Refugees and Migrants, in association with the organization “Woman - Equal Partner”. The project covers a timeframe from April 2009 to September 2011 and is funded by the European Union.
