NGO welcomes ratification of 2 documents prohibiting death penalty

Amnesty International Moldova welcomes the ratification in Parliament of two international documents on abolishing death penalty. Info-Prim Neo specifies that the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova ratified in its last sitting of the spring-summer session the 13th Protocol of the European convention for Human rights and the second facultative protocol of the International Pact on civil and political rights regarding capital punishment. According to Amnesty International Moldova, the ratification of these treaties is a historical event that fully abolishes the death penalty in Moldova. The ratification of these documents meant introducing international guarantees for not coming back to death penalty. Moldova abolished death penalty on June 26, 2006 and the Parliament introduced these amendments in the Constitution. Until that moment, death penalty could be applied for felonies committed during war.
