The Center of Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives submitted a National Pact for Justice to Parliament, Government and the magistrates for signing. The Pact envisions freeing the judicial power from the influence of politics, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the NGO says the initiative was submitted following the dismissal of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu. “The separation of powers in the state remains for the time being a desideratum. It seems that some of the emotive statements of the politicians and personal insinuations made to obtain the given dismissal were sufficiently plausible for the Superior Council of Magistrates to make the long-awaited agenda topical. It should be noted that every time civil society asked hastening the appointment or dismissal of the Supreme Court of Justice president, the Superior Council of Magistrates warned that the convocation procedures must be observed and our hurry was not a relevant argument,” said the organization’s head Ion Dron. According to the NGO, the swiftness with which the Superior Council of Magistrates responded to a similar call made by representatives of the political class is at least discomforting. “This shows that the third state power that was intentionally defiled by the Communist administration is still tightly connected with the political events, is anyway ready to respond to the opportunist or populist statements made by leaders of the parties that are in power or in the opposition, according to conjuncture, when the party interests are directly or indirectly affected,” it is said in the communiqué. The Center of Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives warns the representatives of the executive and legislative powers that they will be sued if they groundlessly refuse to respond to the petition concerning the opportunity or uselessness of signing the National Pact for Justice. On July 5, Parliament dismissed the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu, at the suggestion of the Liberal Party. The Supreme Council of Magistrates recommended the legislative body to discharge Ion Muruianu the same day.
