The National Coordinating Committee “Victoria” will mount the “Memory March” and the event “Undying Regiment” in central Chisinau on May 9, starting at 9:30am. All those who want can take part. According to the organizers, the events will take place by observing all the anti-epidemic measures imposed by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission. The participants will receive protective face masks, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, the head of the National Coordinating Committee “Victoria” Alexei Petrovici said the events will be staged because the Committee is not indifferent to the country’s history, to the history of the deeds of the heroes of World War II.
“We consider it necessary to mark the 76th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, as the heroes deserve. That’s why; on May 9 we will go along the streets of our capital Chisinau towards the Eternity Memorial where we will honor the memory of the war heroes,” said Alexei Petrovici. He invited all the organizations and bodies that support such events to join in.
“Victoria” deputy head Boris Șapoval said that about 400,000 Moldovans fought for the Red Army against the fascist occupants. More than half of them were awarded medals for bravery.
Colonel Nicolae Macovei, deputy head of the Officers Union of Moldova, said the victory of 1945 is an important event and a lot of generations were educated based on this war. The Officers Union will attend the victory march so as to show to the people of Moldova that this victory is important. All the veterans who are note indifferent are invited to attend the events.
The representatives of the National Coordinating Committee “Victoria” assured that the Committee is not a political organization, but is an NGO for which May 9 is the day of victory against fascism.
