The nongovernmental organizations that protect the rights of the disabled children welcome the inclusion of a special chapter dedicated to the integration of children with special needs in the draft Education Code, but consider it should be supplemented, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on Friday, Alexandra Grajdian, the head of the public association “The Woman and Child – Protection and Support”, said the draft Education Code should envision alternative community services that would promote the integration process. Psychologists, logopedists and kinetotherapists should work in schools, while the parents should be trained how to correctly help the children with disabilities. Tatiana Leahu, who helps disabled children at a school in Criuleni, said teachers that will assist these children must work in all the schools and this should be prided in the new Education Code. The children with special needs can go to an ordinary kindergarten if they are supported. “These children assimilate the information slower, but the progress is seen over time,” Tatiana Leahu said. Svetlana Tanaseva, the mother of a disabled girl, said her daughter became more confident after she went for several times to a specialized camps that provided logopedist and kinetotherapist services. Also, mobile teams of specialists of the association “The Woman and Child – Protection and Support” worked with her daughter at home during a year. If such services are provided in a centralized way, the situation of many children will improve, the woman considers. The new Education Code replaces the Education Law of 1995. The public discussions on the draft Code will continue by the end of May. A congress of teachers will be held afterward to take a decision about the pre-final structure of the document. Then, the draft Code will be submitted to the Government for approval.
