NGO leader threatens to set Chisinau necropolis on fire

The president of the Association for the Protection of Stray Animals “Alga” Valentina Dudnic Wednesday said he would set fire to the necropolis in Chisinau if the authorities do not stop killing the stray dogs, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The dogs without owner became political hostages. The central authorities, if they want to denigrate the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, raise the issue of stray dogs. But no authority wants to solve the problem. The dogs, even the neutered ones, are killed mercilessly. Not only the Chisinau City Hall, but also the central authorities should deal with this problem and solve it humanly,” the NGO leader said at a news conference. “The Association “Alga” sterilizes the dogs and sets them free, while the Autosalubritate Division catches and kills them by poisoning, burning or beating,” she added. “We could help the authorities solve the problem of stray dogs humanly, by sterilization. Our Association spays about 150 dogs a month. We could end this terror step by step,” said veterinarian Olga Podamova. “Alga” calls on the Chisinau City Hall to draw up a contract whereby to commit itself not to kill the stray dogs. It also demands that there should be a law providing for the punishment of those that kill the dogs. The municipal authorities repeatedly denied the accusations made by the president of the Association for the Protection of Stray Animals “Alga”. “By such statements, Valentina Dudnic, the head of the given Association, misinforms the people. Those interested can go to the municipal necropolis located on Uzinelor Street and see by themselves that this is not true,” the City Hall said in a communiqué earlier, specifying that no healthy dog is killed.
