NGO launches awareness-raising campaign to protect rights of people with special needs

The Center of Legal Assistance for People with Disabilities has launched the awareness-raising campaign “Rights without Barriers”, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the organization, the campaign is aimed at reducing the number of cases when the rights of the persons with mental of physical disabilities are violated by increasing knowledge of their rights and changing the attitude towards the problems faced by these people. The strategy centers on the dissemination of information about the rights of the disabled, motivation for knowing them, promotion of legal assistance. According to a sociological survey, the rights to social protection, accessibility, education, employment, medical assistance are violated most often. “The awareness-raising campaign aims to accelerate the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that will lead to the adjustment of the national legislation in the field to the European and international standards. So far, the Convention has been signed by 126 UN member states,” representatives of the Center of Legal Assistance for People with Disabilities said. The campaign is carried out with the support of the Finnish foundation “Abilis”. The Center of Legal Assistance for People with Disabilities is a nongovernmental organization whose aim is to protect and promote the rights of the people with special needs.
