A new hearing in the case of the ex-president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii Ilan Shor, the mayor of Orhei, was held at the Cahul Appeals Court on September 19. The judges accepted the lawyers’ request to carry out a financial-accounting examination that was made at the previous hearing.
Contacted by IPN, Denis Ulanov, one of the lawyers for Ilan Shor, said the request refers strictly to circumstances of the case, but he cannot provide more details. No other aspects were examined in today’s hearing. The next hearing was set for December 17, 11am.
On June 21, 2017, the Buiucani branch of the Court of Chisinau City passed a judgement by which the current mayor of Orhei was sentenced to seven years and a half in jail for causing of damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.
The sentence of the first court was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months given that this had to be translated from Romanian into Russian. In February the case was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court.
