Next CMC chair likely to be elected after elections
The following chair of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) is likely to be elected only after the parliamentary elections April 5, as many councilors are involved in electioneering. Friday, after ousting Eduard Musuc from the office of CMC chairman, many councilors hinted it would be a good idea to postpone the CMC's sessions till after the elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Before voting for the dismissal of Eduard Musuc, opposition councilors slammed the CMC's work during his chair.
Liberal Democratic faction leader Alexandru Tanase has said Musuc's dismissal “is the only option to overcome the crisis and chaos in the capital.” “His mode and manner of leading is authoritarian, and the minority was often neglected during all this period,” he said.
Moldova Noastra Alliance councilor Oleg Cernei has said “a CMC chairman should be tolerant, not authoritarian.” “Power duality came with Eduard Musuc's coming to chair the council,” he said and suggested Musuc to resign.
Communist councilor Valerii Pavlov has supported Eduard Musuc, arguing “he is the most adequate man for the office.” “The Soviet power invested so much in Chisinau, but we destroy everything,” Pavlov said.
Ravnopravie leader Valerii Climenco has said “Musuc is in his place all right”. “He is the victim of the political situations in the country. “If he is a prime-minister, he won;t be any worse than the ones before him,” said Climenco. (PSD leader Dumitru Braghis announced earlier that the party may propose Eduard Musuc for the premier's office.
Democratic councilor Oazu Nantoi has said “it's sad that Eduard Musuc accepted to play the games of the central power, although he is young.”
Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu has said “a young man should employ only democratic methods, not totalitarian.”
In response Eduard Musuc has said “everything is related to the parliamentary elections and that he would like the vote for his dismissal to be open.”
Yet the councilors ousted him by secret vote.
The councilors will meet on February 17 to discuss the election of a new CMC chair, as the faction leaders will discuss the issue informally.
