Just a week after their inauguration, some of the water fountains installed at Valea Morilor Park and Columna square in Chisinau have been found “vandalized”, wrote on her FB account Veronica Herța, manager of the city’s water utility ACC.

She said gum and cigarette butts were found dumped into the fountains clogging their drainage. Someone even tried to remove the tap and then dismantle a fountain entirely.

“Many say we are where we are economically, socially and culturally because of political reasons. But I can’t understand why when something is done in the interest of everyone, not just a few, we lack the decency to be sparing and conscious of the public good. As long as our society can’t appreciate other people’s work, we have no chance at succeeding”, lectured Veronica Herța.

ACC announced that the fountains are now back in order and encouraged the public to use them.

The water utility is planning to install 10 other drinking fountains in the central part of the city.
