New water cleaning technology to start being implemented next week

The mud dehydration works at the Chisinau water cleaning plant, by using mud containers, or geotubes, start next week. The tests carried out these days yielded encouraging results, stated the general manager of the Chisinau water supplying company “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, Constantin Becciev, at the Chisinau city hall's staff meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The new equipment replacing many expensive installations consists in installing geotubes on the mud platforms, which separate the dirty water, as the mud remains in them, without being subjected to drying on platforms that are as old as over 30 years. According to Becciev, his Dutch colleagues are also very optimistic. They implement the new technology. The installed equipment has been tested in a pilot-project, which proves the mud dries out three times faster. “Several tonnes of mud was introduced into the geotubes to fill them in ratio of 98%. In several days only, the ratio was 80%. When the mud dries out exposed to the sun, as was done till now, such results used to be attained in a period of 6-7 months,” Becciev has said. The mud at the cleaning plant was spread out on 34 hectares. The new method will allow to dehydrate this volume three times faster than initially planned. The pilot-project of testing the new technology costs 4 million lei, as 24 million lei are needed to use this method during one year.
