The new UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova Dafina Gercheva had a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti on the occasion of her appointment. The UN official said the projects to strengthen the institutional capacities, which are aimed to foster the economic and social development of the country and to protect the environment, are their priorities for the immediate period, IPN reports.
The head of state approved of the multiple programs implemented by the specialized agencies of the UN in Moldova over the last decades, which contributed to the substantial improvement of the living conditions of the Moldovan people. He noted the assistance provided by the local UNDP Office in doing reforms in justice, education and human rights protection.
Nicolae Timofti reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to cooperate with the UN Representative Office in the implementation of the Partnership Framework between the United Nations and Moldova for 2013 – 2017.
Earlier, the post of UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova was held by Nicola Harrington-Buhay.
