New trolleybuses will be brought to Chisinau later
The first new trolleybuses made in Belarus may get to Chisinau with a delay of up to 20 days as the plant needs more time to assemble the units of transport. “It is important that the contract was signed and we will try to make sure that the terms of supply are observed,” Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said Monday.
The Chisinau administration this year will purchase 102 new trolleybuses that will be delivered in four batches by May. The first trolleybuses will be brought to Chisinau in March. The new units of transport have a seating capacity of 100. They will consume less electricity and will have wheelchair access.
The new trolleybuses are constructed and will be delivered by the Belorussian company Belkomunmash SA, which won the tender contest. The cost of the project is €13.7 million, including €0.7 million technical assistance. €5 million represents a loan from the EBRD, another €5 million – a loan from the EIB, while €3million was provided by the European Union as a grant
The Chisinau Trolleybus Company has 260 trolleybuses, 200 of which must be replaced.
