New trolleybuses to run from Low Sunday
The 20 new trolleybuses bought from Minsk will start to run in Chisinau on Low Sunday. The units of transport are in the garage of the Chisinau Electric Transport Division. The mayor general of Chisinau is to make an order allowing the trolleybuses to start work, said the company’s director Gheorghe Morgoci, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“A representative of the trolleybus plant is offering us assistance in Chisinau. The trolleybuses are equipped with audio equipment and have wheelchair access,” said Gheorghe Morgoci. He also said that another two trolleybuses were brought to Chisinau on April 26.
The new trolleybuses were to start work before Easter, but the Parliament did not adopt a bill to exempt the units of transport from customs duties and VAT at the expected time. The MPs passed the bill on April 21, but the necessary documents could not be validated by Easter.
The Chisinau administration bought 102 trolleybuses from the Belarusian plant Belkommunmash within a million project to modernize the public units of transport in the municipality of Chisinau. The cost of the project is €13.7 million, including €0.7 million technical assistance. €5 million represents a loan from the EBRD, another €5 million – a loan from the EIB, while €3million was provided by the European Union as a grant.
