New trolleybuses brought to Chisinau with delay
The municipal administration announced a new deadline by which the new trolleybuses purchased from a Minsk factory will start to run on routes in Chisinau. In Monday’s meeting of City Hall officials, Ghenadie Zadisenets, vice director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company, said the last trolleybuses will be conveyed to Chisinau in the middle of September, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“According to the schedule, the 102 trolleybuses were to be brought to Chisinau by September 3. A number of 44 new trolleybuses now run on route No. 22 and route No. 24 in Chisinau. Five trolleybuses are at the customs office between Moldova and Ukraine, while another ten vehicles are to be loaded onto freight cars on Friday. The deadline was extended for another two weeks,“ said Ghenadie Zadisenets.
The Chisinau City Hall bought the 102 trolleybuses from the factory Belkommunmash within a project to modernize the public transport, which is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, and the European Union. When the project was launched, the City Hall said all the trolleybuses will be delivered by June 1, but the term was later extended.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca instructed the Electric Transport Company to draw up a plan of action for preparing the launch of a project to set up a trolleybus assembly plant in Chisinau. He put forward the idea after visiting the trolleybus factory in Minsk. Dorin Chirtoaca ordered that the financial resources needed to implement the project be identified by September.
