New models of curbside trash cans have been installed at three junctions in central Chisinau and if they can stand the test, the municipality will consider buying 300 more such containers by the end of the year.

Vasile Efros, department head at the Public Amenities Division, told IPN those more than 100 trash cans previously installed at trolley&bus stops proved not capacious enough. Moreover, many of them were destroyed by fires started by tossed cigarette butts.

The new containers are more spacious and come with special ashtrays. The model to be installed in parks is a metallic receptacle adorned with wooden strips. Their price ranges from 1,000 to 3,000 lei.

The three new models were installed at the intersections of Stefan cel Mare Blvd with the streets Vl. Parcalab, Al. Pushkin and G.Banulescu-Bodoni.
