The new Supreme Security Council instructed Monday the competent bodies to take immediate steps to discover the author of the explosion that happened in central Chisinau on October 14, Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko announced. The Council held the first meeting in its new composition on October 26. The only issue on the agenda was the October 14 grenade explosion. Zubko said the examinations go on and that a large number of suspects are under investigation. He avoided yet giving more details so as not to prejudice the inquiry. Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said that one of the main topics of conversation was the ensuring of public order and avoidance of similar incidents in the future, given the coming holidays when many people gather in the center of Chisinau. In this connection, Ghimpu rejected the Prosecutor General's proposal to hold festivities in enclosed or roofed places. The new members of the Supreme Security Council were named by presidential decree on October 23. Mihai Ghimpu, as Caretaker President of Moldova, heads the Council. Its members include Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the first deputy parliamentary Speaker Serafim Urecheanu, MP Marian Lupu, Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta, Minister of Internal Affairs Victor Catan, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, the director of the Security and Information Service Gheorghe Mihai, and Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko.
