New school year underway, 36,000 children become first graders

School year start festivities were held in primary and secondary schools and lyceums all over the country on September 1. About 36,000 children became first graders this year.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc disseminated a congratulatory message on the occasion of the start of the new school year. She wished the students success, health, courage, optimism and energy.

“We always learn. We start to learn when we are born. We study all aspects of life. We learn to build our destiny based on circumstances that can be happy, but most of the times are not at all simple. However, the first autumn day always brings a new start in studies and we all, children, young people, teachers and parents, wait for this day and honor it. September 1 is the day that unites us in a constant hope for a good start of the school year,” wrote the minister of education.

At the Theoretical Lyceum “Ion Creanga” of Chisinau, the children were congratulated by the lyceum’s principal Corneliu Solomon and by persons invited to the festivities. The principal noted that in connection with the celebration of 100 years of the publication of the poem “Our language” by Alexei Mateevici, the first class taught by class masters will be entitled “Our language is a treasure”.

“At the congress of Moldovan teachers from Bessarabia, Alexei Mateevici said we are Romanians if we are Moldovans and we speak the Romanian language, and the language spoken in this province was the language of Eminescu and we are brothers with the French, Spanish and Portuguese people. He told us to defend our national interests, to enjoy success and nice accomplishments at all levels as well as economic stability and consensuses. Let’s have a good start!,” said Corneliu Solomon.

In the festivity, the first graders were offered their first textbook – the primer. “A new fall came and brought a new start. The first bell ring brings smiles on our face, but is surely the most important event for those who came to the first grade. They came timidly and with jitters, but also with big expectations. Profit from every moment to gain knowledge,” said primary Elena Popa.

The Theoretical Lyceum “Ion Creanga” is among the top seven lyceums with a Baccalaureate exam pass rate of 100%.
