New salary system not fully implemented, deputy education minister

The implementation of the budgetary sector salary system in the culture, education and sport field differs on the territory and is not fully performed, Deputy Education and Youth Minister, Valentin Crudu, says. According to the Parliament’s press service, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, while reporting on the system’s implementation, Valentin Crudu proposed to organise a seminar in this regard with the participation of decision-making factors from raions. Deputy Economy and Trade Minister Sergiu Sainciuc said that starting with the end of 2006, wages paid to the teaching staff increased by 42 percent. By the end of 2007, salaries paid to university professors will go on rise by 50 percent, to the preschool and extra school teachers – by 32 percent, teaching staff in the secondary general education – by another 17 percent, and culture staff – by over 40 percent. Thus, the average monthly salary of an education employee currently accounts for 1,282 lei, compared with 862 in 2005, Sergiu Sainciuc specified. In the opinion of many participants in debates, though salaries have been considerably increased, they do not meet the needs, given the growth of prices for food and industrial goods, the Parliament’s press release reads. According to the law on the budgetary sector wage system in the culture, education and sport field, passed by the Parliament on December 23, 2005, the implementation of the new wage system is performed in three stages – starting with December 1, 2006, and years 2007 and 2008 through 2010. The cost of salary growing is estimated at 4.6 billion lei.
