New round of 5+2 format talks to be held in Berlin June 2

A new round of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format will be held in Berlin on June 2 after a hiatus of about two years, the OSCE Mission to Moldova has said, quoted by IPN.

The Reintegration Office said that today, June 1, Moldova’s delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan will travel to Berlin, where the permanent conference on political issues within the Transnistrian conflict settlement, called generically 5+2 format of the talks, will be held on June 2-3.

According to the Office, the talks are resumed owing to the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities that plead for a consistent dialogue, in a constructive spirit, without preconditions. The agenda includes topical issues and issues of major interest for the population from both banks of the Nistru River, discussed within the dialogue platforms existing between Chisinau and Tiraspol, which became more active lately.

The 5+2 format of the talks includes Chisinau and Tiraspol, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE as mediators and the U.S. and the EU as observers. The last round of these talks was held in Vienna in June 2014.
