The Government extended for the second time the deadline by which polity breeders must start marking the eggs put on sale. The new deadline is January 1, 2012. Initially, it was planned that the marking of eggs will start at the end of 2009, but then the time limit was extended until November 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the November 3 meeting of the Government, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumakov said the losses sustained by the poultry breeders in April-August, when the eggs were sold for 3-4 lei per ten units as against the cost price of 6.5- 69 lei, amount to 25 million lei. Thus, the poultry breeding companies did not have money to equip the egg sorting centers with marking and sorting equipment. The companies need €10 million more to finish the initiated works, said Vasile Bumakov. The lack of financial resources for purchasing the necessary equipment was also invoked the previous time, when the deadline was extended until this November. Marking and sorting the bird eggs by quality and weight are requirements imposed by the EU.
