Alexandru Stratan will serve as the rector of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM). About 70% of the members of the academic community of ASEM voted for him, Grigore Belostecinic, the Academy’s rector whose term in office expires on April 28, stated for IPN.
The voting results are to be approved by the Academy’s Council for Institutional Strategic Development on April 13. The decision is to be later confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Research, within three months.
Alexandru Stratan is a university professor and a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He heads the National Institute of Economic Research.
Larisa Dodu-Gucea, the dean of the Academy’s Faculty of International Economic Reactions, also competed for the post of ASEM rector.
Grigore Belostecinic, who has managed ASEM for 20 years, this time didn’t apply for a new term. “I managed the Academy for a long period of time. I had to stop sooner or later and I decided to stop now. Younger people should come and do greater and better things than I did,” said Grigore Belostecinic.
