Representatives of civil society and a number of parties on May 11 continued the series of protests against the PDM-PSRM initiatives to change the electoral system in front of the Parliament Building. Executive director of the Institute for Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie reminded that the bill obtained by the merger of the two initiatives was passed in the first reading without consulting civil society, which means that this will not promote the interests of the people, IPN reports.
“Both of the initiatives were thought out and adopted by corrupt and dishonest people. Our Parliament sits there on the upper floor, discusses we do not know what and then votes, but we don’t know what it votes and for whom,” stated Arcadie Barbarosie.
Programs director at the Center for Politics and Reforms Dumitru Alaiba said the promotion of the two legislative initiatives is a compromise reached by the PRSM and PDM to perpetuate corruption and establish dictatorship in Moldova.
According to expert Sergiu Tofilat, the promotion of these documents implies very big risks for society and will cause chaos. “We are ready to also take other measures not to allow Vlad Plahotniuc to rule in the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.
May 11 is the fourth day of protests mounted in front of the Parliament Building starting at 5pm. A large-scale protest was set to take place in the central square of Chisinau at midday on May 14.
