New Prosecutor General: We will not fulfill political orders

Valeriu Zubco was elected Prosecutor General of Moldova. Most of the MPs voted in favor of his candidacy, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Turcan, MP on behalf of the PCRM, asked the new Prosecutor General how he will manage in the new post if he does not have experience in the field. Valeriu Zubco answered that he worked as lawyers and organized different seminars on legal matters and this will help him fulfill his duties. Valeriu Zubco was asked by the Communist MPs if he forms part of a political party. The prosecutor said that he does not and rejected their accusations that he campaigned among the students during the electoral campaign. From the Parliament's rostrum, Valeriu Zubco said that the Prosecutor General's Office will not fulfill political orders, but will strictly observe the law and will be autonomous. Another Communist MP, Victor Stepaniuc, congratulated the new Prosecutor General on his appointment and asked him to be Moldova's prosecutor, not the Parliament's or the Presidential Office's prosecutor. Liberal MP Valeriu Nemerenco said that the Moldovan people stopped believing in justice. He mentioned all the cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR and asked Zubco to determine what property the former head of state Vladimir Voronin owns. After elected, Valeriu Zubco was sworn in. The prosecutor will hold office for a five-year period.
