The Governments of Moldova and Romania, in the joint meeting of September 22, agreed the areas that will receive technical and financial support based on the €100 million in non-reimbursable assistance provided by Romania, IPN reports.

According to the Moldovan Government’s press service, financing will be provided for projects to design and build new bridges over the Prut and to interconnect the energy and gas supply systems, designed to ensure Moldova’s energy independence. Romania will make investments in different sectors of the Moldovan economy. There will also be financed health and environment projects. A sum of €5 million will be provided in the near future for continuing the project to repair nursery schools.

The members of the two Cabinets also discussed the development of the health sector by extending the SMURD emergency service in Moldova and investing in the dialysis centers of the main hospitals. The sides agreed to develop investment projects to modernize agriculture in order to improve the quality of the Moldovan agricultural products so that these are competitive on the EU market. There were considered joint mechanisms for promoting Moldovan and Romanian products abroad.

The sides signed a technical cooperation agreement in the area of military standardization between the Ministry of Defense of Moldova and the Ministry of National Defense of Romania with the aim of supporting and modernizing the National Army of Moldova.

The agreement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of Romania concerning the utilization of the €100 million in non-reimbursable assistance provided by Romania to Moldova was signed in Bucharest on April 27, 2010. A sum of €37.19 million of the €100 million had been used in 2011-2014 for implementing energy and education projects and for providing emergency assistance following natural disasters.
