Journalist Dmitri Ciubasenco might be Our Party’s presidential candidate in the upcoming elections this fall. The announcement was made by party leader Renato Usatii on his Facebook page, IPN reports.
Usatii said that the party’s congress will analyze Ciubasenco’s candidacy and that he personally liked the journalist as a person who “can offer the people what they want and most of the people today want early presidential elections”.
So far, several politicians have announced they would run for president: Igor Dodon, head of the Party of Socialists, Iurie Leanca, head of the European People’s Party of Moldova, and independent candidate Valeriu Ghiletchi.
Meanwhile, three parties have announced they would have a joint candidate and offered voters the chance to choose between the leader of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party Andrei Nastase and the head of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu. The result will be announced by the end of next month and the Liberal Democratic Party will throw its weight behind the chosen candidate.
The Democratic Party will select a candidate after August 27 (Independence Day), while the Party of Communists will have a meeting on this topic on August 27.
The Liberal Party said they would have their own candidate, but haven’t announced his or her name so far. The party’s national Congress will meet before the end of August.
The first round of the presidential ballot is scheduled for October 30.
