The number of Moldovan MPs will be reduced from 101 to 71, if the country will be ruled by the newly created Social-Political Movement for People and Country. Party’s Leader Tudor Deliu told a news conference on Monday, July 23 that the party, registered one month ago at the Ministry of Justice, pleads for mixed parliamentary elections – meaning that a half of the MPs are elected according to election districts, and another half – to party lists. Also, the Party wants to reintroduce the election of the head of state by means of the direct vote. Referring to the foreign policy, the Party said it wants to have good relations with all the neighbours of Moldova. Also, the quoted source said that the Party puts stress on intellect, on educated persons and does not accept persons who “flew” from one party to another, searching for power. Being asked why the Party has chosen this title, the quoted source said that a new name was searched, and referring to the notion of “people”, Deliu said it means all the population of Moldova. The Social-Political Movement for People and Country is a liberal party and its goal is to come to power in order to promote the the rule of law. At present, there are 29 parties registered at the Ministry of Justice at present.
