On the birthday of the late poet Grigore Vieru, the Chisinau Municipality published a collection of his works titled “Did you call me, son?”, selected by Spiridon Vangheli, himself a celebrated author of children's books. At the launch of the volume, students and renowned musicians recited poetry and sang music based on his lyrics, IPN reports.
Spiridon Vangheli called Grigore Vieru “the spiritual teacher of this nation, who built an intellectual monastery for the Moldovan people”. “I don't know if there is a similar case in world literature, when a boy who grew up without a father, experienced the horror of the war and of famine, this boy managed to adopt as sons and daughters all the children of Basarabia”, he said.
The book “Did you call me, son?” will be distributed in schools, libraries, boarding schools and Romanian language schools in Transnistria.
