New partnership plan with NATO approved

The Cabinet approved a new cooperation plan with NATO for the years 2025-2028. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document comes to strengthen the safety of citizens and prepare the country for modern challenges. In this connection, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that this document, which has been regularly updated over the past 20 years, fully respects the constitutional neutrality of the state and brings benefits through technical cooperation and training, IPN reports.

The MFA noted that, through this program, the Republic of Moldova will receive support to combat cyber-attacks, disinformation and other current risks. The state follows the example of other neutral countries. Militarily neutral Austria, Switzerland and Ireland are working with NATO to protect their infrastructure, improve the public sector and better respond to hybrid threats.

According to the approved document, civil servants working in the security sector will benefit from modern training. In addition, women will have bigger chances to advance in their careers, and gender equality will be promoted.

"Although NATO is mostly known as a military alliance, the partnership with the Republic of Moldova focuses on the security sector reform, solving of critical infrastructure problems and technical training. The partnership does not include participation in military missions other than with a UN mandate, or obligations that violate the country's neutrality," said the MFA.

The authorities note that this partnership respects the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which guarantees the status of neutrality. Just as other neutral countries work together to ensure their safety, Moldova uses this relationship to protect its citizens.
