New Parliament to convene on May 5
The first sitting of the new Parliament will take place on may 5, the last day possible under the Constitution. The President in office, Vladimir Voronin, has issued a decree in this respect, his press service announces, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
After the April 5 elections, 4 parties passed over the 6-per-cent threshold to enter the parliament: the PCRM with 60 seats, the PL and the PLDM with 15 seats each and the AMN – with 11 seats. So, the PCRM will be able to elect the president of the parliament, but is short of one vote to elect the new president of the country, who will appoint the premier, after consultations with the parliamentary factions.
Although the Constitutional Court validated the April 5 elections, those three opposition parties question its results, accusing the Communists of rigging the elections.
