The Academy of Lucky Parents (Academia Părinților de Invidiat) says that the education and parenting models used today by most parents are obsolete and no longer meet children’s needs. The Academy presented a platform of online courses for parents and education specialists at a press conference hosted by IPN.
Mihai Nani, a sociologist specializing in childhood studies, noted that in 2017 alone more than 1,400 crimes were committed by adolescents and young people, and the higher the age, the higher the number of offenses. He also said that alcohol is a problem. Official statistics show that 10% of Moldova’s alcoholics are of a young age. Several studies in the country show that 40% of adolescents have sex, and more than half of them do not use any contraception. As a result, the rate of sexually transmitted diseases among young people is high: 180 cases per 100,000 young people.
“Discussions with young people in the territory have highlighted many problems. Many young people do not respect their parents and do not take their opinion into account. I also know cases where parents have taken out loans to buy their children a smartphone just for the sake of keeping the child quiet. This situation shows that our children are corrupted by reality because of wrong parenting practices,” the sociologist said.
Ina Crasnojon, a psychotherapist specializing in child assistance, said that both parents should get involved in their children’s education and make it a balanced way. Many parents educate their children in disconnection with reality, fulfilling any of their desires. Later as these children reach maturity, they can lose their emotional balance, experience different fears, have a low self-esteem, and avoid the responsibility of making decisions.
Olimpia Gherman, a trainer on emergency aid to children, said that parents should guide their children toward healthy lifestyles, and that education should begin before school age.
Coming to parents’ aid, the Academy of the Lucky Parents has launched an online parenting and education platform. The training courses can be accessed on the website www.edu-api.md, and the first available course is called “The Basics of Positive Education”.
