Last week, ten pigs were slaughtered in Manta village, Cahul district and a suspected case was also in the neighboring Pascani village, but the virus was not confirmed.
There are presently three active outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs and an outbreak in wild boars in the border area of Lipcani town, Briceni district.
African swine fever is deadly to pigs but not harmful to humans. It spreads rapidly among pigs. If the virus is confirmed the animals are killed in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
